Santa Clara, Calif.-based service marketplace Jamcracker is announcing today that its Jamcracker Service Delivery Network (JSDN) has been upgraded to version 2.0.

Brent Arslaner, Jamcracker vice president of marketing, tells us that the company is being asked to do more by its customers. "If a service provider wants to offer a number of services but doesn't want to build the staffing to manage support and billing, Jamcracker can do that."

In order to do so, Jamcracker has upgraded the billing, reporting, and authentication features of its software. In addition, Jamcracker now offers customer support.

Customer self-administration
Throughout the telecom world, companies are trying to automate more, in order to reduce staffing costs. Arslaner says that Jamcracker is allowing customers to order additional services through its portal.

"I would describe these as marketing tools, not just self-administration," he says. "Some customers will know what services they're interested in and will tell you, but when you have a marketplace that more open, you can learn more."

Service providers can learn which services are selling the best. "You can quickly learn, from a larger demographic, what services people are interested in. It helps you figure out what services other people have had success offering."

As is appropriate for a company that is also a marketplace or ecosystem, Jamcracker itself has found a partner for customer support, Santa Clara, Calif.-based e4e. The company serves large clients and provides more than the usual set of support services, with vertical offerings in real estate and health care.

One step at a time
Arslaner warns that companies should only offer the services they understand, and only offer services their customers want. "You should only offer services you can support. Just as an example, everybody's talking about SugarCRM, but your customers may not be ready for it."

Pricing and availability
JSDN 2.0 is available now from Jamcracker. The service is supported by the company's PivotPoint software, which can be licensed or hosted.

Jamcracker services can be purchased as a license, a monthly fee, or through a revenue share.
