FNSI is a Network Services Provider (NSP) and Tier
One Internet backbone provider. Founded in 1996, it operates a national
IP network backbone that is ranked among the top seven providers in North
America.
Fiber Network Solutions, Inc. backbone is built on ATM (Asynchronous
Transfer Mode) technologies.
These technologies allow FNSI to offer high network resilience and maximum
data transfer speeds at all times. Its ATM network has been designed around
a non-blocking switch based architecture.
ATM connections to the FNSI backbone are available from DS-3 to OC-12
(622 Mbps). FNSI terminates high-speed connections (DS3 and greater) directly
into the ATM core. The company also aggregates DS1 and lower speed connections
into multi-protocol Lucent switches supporting ATM, Frame Relay and PPP
connections.
