We rank U.S. Consumer ISPs by overall subscriber numbers, regardless
of connectivity method. Oddities, anomalies and reporting errors reveal a changing
U.S. marketplace.
According to
CyberAtlas there were 149 million Americans online as of September
2001. For the purposes of this ranking, we'll use this number as the basis of
our analysis, even though Internet use in the U.S. appears to be growing at
a rate of 2 million new Internet users each month, according to a study by the
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)
