DSL Subscriber Numbers Analysis: DSL
Subscribers by Nation
The latest figures show that Canada, Belgium, and Hong Kong have
surged forward in DSL deployment, but South Korea surges ahead of the pack,
having hooked up almost one quarter of all the nation's phone lines to DSL.
Point Topic continues to track the latest operator reports for DSL subscriber
numbers. But how do the numbers break down around the world? A closer look at
the figures gives some clues as to the state of DSL markets in different regions.
The "DSL/100 population" and "DSL/100 phone lines" statistics
translate directly into percentages. Thus, 1.59 percent of the U.S. population
has DSL, but 2.27 percent of U.S. households that have phone lines also have
DSL.
Buildouts in Canada, Belgium, and Hong Kong have passed 5 percent of all phone
lines, and South Korea stands out far ahead of the pack, with DSL reaching 23.61
percent of all phone lines, for a total of 5,178,300 DSL lines in South Korea.
Of the world's phone lines, 2.12 have been hooked up to DSL.
