VoIP Ranking by Subscriber: Q1 2007 This quarter's numbers are interesting, but next quarter's numbers will be more interesting, as we explain below.
SunRocket's demise will be the story of the next quarter, as we expect significant changes in these rankings. Those changes will make next quarter's numbers far more interesting than this quarter's. These statistics are a snapshot in time, generally showing the race as of March 31, 2007, although some statistics are from different points in time. Note that we may not be aware of all VoIP providers, and therefore this is not a complete list. Vonage's patent woes are ongoing, and will affect subscriber numbers. Skype terminated its offer of free nationwide calling in North America, so we expect its subscriber numbers to decline. Doubts about Sunrocket are increasing. See notes from DSL Reports and GigaOM. Covad and XO Communications are no longer reporting end users, only subscriber lines. If either had reported end users, they would rank higher on our chart. Removed from the list Cox has gone private and no longer issues public data. Paetec reported "voice channels" but we cannot translate this into a subscriber number.
