April Site Defacements attrition.org posts statistics on site defacements and also posts names and mirrors of sites defaced. The site is run by volunteers to distribute information about computer security.
Asked if attrition runs port scans on the defaced sites it mirrors, Matt "munge" Dickerson, one of attrition.org's site admins, wrote, "The data is collected during our mirroring process, and utilizes three different techniques to ID the Operating System and webserver: NetCraft, nmap, and a simple httpd HEAD request. So the answer is yes, we do a small port scan of the defaced host."
While serious about its stats, the site is lighthearted about itself. Munge's bio on the attrition.org site reads in part, "1997 champion of U.S. Muskrat racing and winner of several blooper awards. He likes taking yearly trips to Utah for continuing Mormon research. Programs in GW Basic, SNOBOL, and Apple Logo when not learning ancient chinese scripture...Munge currently updates Attrition from Libya on days that end in 'Y'. He's the confused one." End
