WaveSmith Notches First Customer WaveSmith Networks, a builder of voice-enabled switches for ATM networks, announces its first customer, Global NAPs, a competitive voice and data services carrier.
WaveSmith Networks, an Acton, Mass. telecom gear maker that was founded in May of 2000, has signed Global NAPs, a Quincy, Mass., voice and data services carrier, as its first customer. Financial terms of the deal, announced at the Supercomm 2002 trade show in Atlanta, were not disclosed. Both companies are privately held. Global NAPs will use WaveSmith's products to provide all multi-service switching functions in existing and new locations including: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, New York, and Reston, Va. GlobalNAPs' pricing scheme includes T-1s for $750 per month and T-3s for $17,500 per month. "Global NAPs is a significant win for us in terms of revenue, as well as sending a strong message to the market that WaveSmith is for real," said Robert Dalias, WaveSmith's president and CEO. As pleased as Dalias is at adding a customer, he is also touting the fact that the company displaced a competitor, Marconi, as a sign that his venture-backed company is gaining ground. "We were experiencing some frustration with our legacy gear in terms of physical size, port density, and reliability," said Frank Gangi, Global NAPs CEO. "(WaveSmith's) DN platform proved far superior in all of these key areas." End
