The company that yesterday was called Durocom is now called Volaris Online. Volaris is a rollup of the following ISPs:

  • Florida-based MPInet and Gulf Coast Internet
  • Georgia-based Surf South
  • Mississippi-based CrossRoads Access
  • Tennessee-based Vol.com, Edge.net, and ICX Online
  • Kentucky-based KIH Online and Apex Internet
  • North Carolina-based CoastalNet and WAVE Communications

Volaris claims 250,000 business and residential subscribers in the six states mentioned above.

"We are excited about the opportunity before us and have focused our efforts on becoming the Southeast's alternative provider to AOL," said Ozzie deFaria, CEO of Volaris Online.

"Essentially, this is the rebirth of our company," deFaria added. "Until now we've been operating as 11 different companies. This change will allow us to streamline our operations, which in-turn will permit us to serve our customers, employees, and investors better."

Existing customers will not be required to change any account information, however all new customers will be signed up under the VOL.com domain.

"Our customers have some exciting things to look forward to like network-wide roaming, which is the ability to receive service anywhere in our region, as well online sign-up, customer self service and much more," said Tony Paalz, COO of Volaris Online.
