Savvis Lands Continental Airlines Deal
Network service provider to power in-house e-commerce initiatives
for nation's fifth largest carrier.
Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL)
has hired Savvis Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:
SVVS) to provide the network for the airline's new, high traffic e-commerce
initiatives, as well as its employee extranet and intranet services. Continental
will connect to the network service provider's backbone through Savvis' private
network access point in Houston, Tex., where the airline is headquartered. Financial
details of the deal were not disclosed.
Herndon, Va.-based Savvis is providing
the nation's fifth-ranked air passenger carrier with a 20Mbps networking package
that is scalable to accommodate additional growth.
"It is imperative that we provide flawless service through our Continental.com
portal, because encountering frequent problems with booking flights and conducting
other travel-related business online undermines customer loyalty and can potentially
mean lost business," said Andre Gold, Continental's technical director of Internet
engineering.
