ISPCON Spring 2001, Day Two BillMax software adds real-time credit card processing and merchant services, Postini announces a no-up-front cost reseller program, and more news.
With another day comes another round of announcements at ISPCON Thursday, chock full of offerings to benefit the ISP. BillMax's enhanced billing software The service gives the ISP an instant credit card gateway for its own customer acquisition efforts and lets ISPs resell the program to its customers for their own Web site. The software is run on the Unix platform, so ISPs running flavors of Linux, BSD and Solaris can utilize the product. With a licensing contract, ISPs get 90 percent access to the source code, making the product easy to brand and format. The company offers BillMax free for trial use, up to 100 open accounts. It's a good deal for ISPs who need to offer email and other services like in-line spam and virus filtering, but don't want to drop the cash needed to buy an email server and load it up with expensive software. ISPs are billed on a per-message, per-subscriber model, payable when the invoice goes out to the customer. ISPs are able to monitor the applications being used by its customers for more customization. "Within three weeks we had revenue going straight to our bottom line and our technical support staff was relieved from a significant source of user-related issues," said Jack Smith, Internet Xpress, Inc., project manager.
