Yipes! Reader says that Ethernet Service Providers (ESPs) are laying fiber that the RBOCs will use when the ESPs go bankrupt. [Response to article 100 Mbps for $1000 Per Month from April 20, 2001.]
Dear Editors: How does Yipes get into these buildings? They still need to order the
A bunch of little DSL users won't pay the bills at Yipes. They're preselling to the large tenant in each of these buildings and then they go to the Property manager and ask to use the building riser system. The property manager is often telling them, "you sold your service to X tenant, you don't need into the riser system to deliver that circuit to X". Then Yipes has to beg and hope and plead that they'll let them in. Sure, X gets his high speed circuit, but the rest of the tenants in the building get squat. I like some of what you write, but you need to talk to the property management companies about Yipes and Cogent and their tactics. That 90 day lead time often takes 6 months, so they're no different than the ILEC's and the ILEC's know it. In fact, they enjoy it. Eventually Yipes will run out of money and Verizon will just walk right into any building they want to. The infrastructure will already be there for them. Rick McInturff
