ISP Letters to the Editor

Gambling, Yes, Bermuda, No

Reader reads the latest reports on where gambling sites are actually hosted.

Dear Editors:

You quote a member of the ISP-Colo list as stating:

[PM observed] "No gambling sites are legally hosted in the US. Most of them are in Bermuda or the UK."

In fact, Bermuda specifically bans gaming sites from being hosted by any ISPs on the island. The UK is not a big host of sites on the other side of the pond either.

According to the latest Bear Sterns report issued in March 2001 about online gaming, among the main sites for online gaming are Antigua (also known as Antigua and Barbuda), Costa Rica, Australia, and to a lesser extent Gibraltar and a few others. Bear Sterns was particularly bullish on Antigua's continuing prospects.

Regards,

Ahmed El Amin
Editor, OffshoreOn.com

P.S. By the way, Bear Sterns got it wrong about Bermuda in their 2000 report on online gaming but corrected the mistake in their 2001 report, probably where the mistake came about.
