ISPPlanet NMS Series - MG-SOFT NetInspector and MIB Browser

Device Control
Devices that provide an SNMP "write" interface to parameters can be configured using the MIB Browser's "Set" command (right). This command pops up a subwindow that displays the selected object's syntax, legal values, and current value (queried automatically or on demand). There is no interface to set several objects at once and Add Row is not currently implemented (to be supported in v2.0). Cleck to view larger image

Network Monitoring with MIB Browser
MIB Browser Professional Edition can be used to monitor networks in three fashions: pinging devices, polling with SNMP, and listening for TRAPs.

Click to view larger image ICMP ping can be invoked from the MIB Browser GUI to determine device reachability. If want to develop your own monitoring scripts, a command line "SNMP ping" (left) can be used to send any SNMP command (for example, to continuously measure response time).

The MIB Browser "Table View" (below, left) polls a table once or repeatedly. Rows are displayed horizontally or vertically (convenient for sparsely populated tables with many columns, like the ifTable shown here). "Info" and "InfoTable" (below, right) provide similar capabilities for any arbitrary set of objects. The standard Info window can be launched directly from discovery, window settings can be saved for future use, and polled values can be logged to a file. While the MIB Browser provides robust polling, it does not analyze results to determine network status. Objects do not turn red; no warning events are triggered. An "LED" flashes when the agent fails to respond, but it is otherwise up to the user to assess what monitored values mean with regard to network health.

Finally, the MIB Browser includes a very basic Trap Ringer (right)—a window that displays incoming SNMP TRAPs. A tiny alarm clock flashes until you manually acknowledge or clear received traps. These TRAPs cannot be logged, searched, or filtered. Click to view larger image
If you really care about TRAP monitoring, consider the more fully-featured Trap Ringer sold by MG-SOFT as a separate product.
