Command-Line Administration
All management occurs through a command line interface over serial connection
or telnet. "NOC jocks" will be satisfied with this CLI, while others may
look forward to a browser-based interface in the next release.
Two levels of password authentication control access to monitoring and
configuration commands. Config sessions timeout after inactivity, but
monitor sessions remain indefinitely. Telnet access can be disabled entirely,
but not selectively by address or port. For secure telnet, purchase the
Secure Remote manager ($995, not tested). This Secure Shell (SSH) server
supports encryption and strong authentication, but also requires an SSH
client on the admin's desktop.
The DynaCache uses typical CLI commands: "show", "list",
"config", and "diag". Admins will appreciate control sequences that
jump left, right, and back into history. Monitor sessions can invoke
most show commands, such as "show system". To make changes, you must
enter "enable configuration" and a second password.
This CLI supports few abbreviations; top-level command help is available,
but we often had to consult our manual for parameter syntax.
