Channel Management Services

Promises IP Quality of Service reporting for dynamic optical networks, and to simplify network planning and manage resources regardless of traffic types.

Swedish provisioning solutions company Dynarc announced the availability of its new channel management services model, ChanServ, for the Dynarc Channelized Reserved Service (CRS) architecture. According to the company, this new model, when combined with the CRS architecture, will unleash the full potential of an IP-centric network that delivers strict end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees. The company says that service providers will now be able to focus on revenue-generating opportunities by dynamically managing the network, allocating services, offering bandwidth on-demand, and reserving resources at various switching and routing bit rates.

Dynarc's new ChanServ model is supposed to extend the existing benefits of Differentiated Services (DiffServ) and Integrated Services (IntServ) by providing a solution that addresses strict resource reservations and aggregation of traffic types. The company says that ChanServ should fit nicely into a DiffServ/IntServ framework by directly helping ISPs to guarantee end-to-end QoS, feature IP multicast support, and offer immediate deployment of services including video streaming, VoIP and digital cable, regardless of the types of traffic.

According to Dynarc, ChanServ, with its channel management capabilities with CRS should address the allocation issues in typical IP-centric network management scenarios by targeting the channel management structure and provisioning all types of traffic entering the network. These characteristics should also ensure easy set-up and tear down of channels. The company says that End-to-end QoS on IP-based networks has never been this easy.

With ChanServ's filtering capabilities, ISPs may be able to manage even the slightest traffic variation on the network. For example, the company says that an on-line order for an application such as video on demand can be satisfied immediately by adjusting the service level for the individual customer. Full control over provisioning could also allow an ASP to charge per application.

Further, Dynarc's family of interoperable auto-provisioning routers may reduce the amount of hardware by integrating add-drop multiplexing, dynamic switching, and IP routing into one scalable box. The result could be a pure IP-over-fiber solution capable of carrying legacy voice, video and data on a single platform.

"ISPs need an affordable method of deploying IP services, removing traffic bottlenecks, and providing end-to-end QoS," said Senior Analyst Anna Reidy at telecommunications research firm, RHK. "ChanServ is the Dynarc approach to addressing these issues."

"Dynarc is extending the value proposition of the 'IP Everywhere' model by delivering services-on-demand and taming bandwidth capacity, thus allowing optimal control of resources, without ever sacrificing QoS," said Fredrik Hanell, Vice President of Marketing for Dynarc. "The ability to plan for the future — a feature not readily offered in optical networks today — is available now with Dynarc's next generation ChanServ model and the CRS architecture."
