Mirapoint this week announced a competitive upgrade program to attract enterprises that are using under-performing or unsupported messaging systems.

The program is set up to enable enterprises to take advantage of Mirapoint's integrated hardware and software solutions bundled with migration services to ease the move from legacy systems to Mirapoint's platform.

The program is being targeted at Critical Path, Sun/iPlanet, and Openwave customers in particular.

The combined lake from these vendors alone should offer ample fish: OpenWave for example, announced plans to end-of-life Post.office on August 31, rendering a potential 20,000 to 250,00 user deployments up for grabs, Mirapoint said.

As part of the program, Mirapoint has designed tools to accelerate migrations. These tools can handle migrating message information, as well as user preferences, such as filtering and forwarding rules, address book content, and other user-specified data.

Mirapoint has already migrated a variety of enterprises from larger, more-expensive, software-based solutions offered by a variety of competitors, including OpenWave, Sun, Critical Path, and sendmail. In the past year, the vendor claims to have migrated 25 customers with a total of 2 million mailboxes.
