WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. recently debuted its Firebox SOHO 6 lineup of firewall appliances. The Firebox SOHO 6, Firebox SOHO 6tc, and Firebox SOHO 6tc 50-user models feature high-performance and multiple interfaces.

The Seattle, Wash.-based Internet security solutions provider's Firebox SOHO 6 models integrate WatchGuard's proven small-office, home office (SOHO) security features with a new custom-built high performance hardware platform that delivers 75 Mbps firewall and 20 Mbps virtual private network (VPN) throughput.

In addition, the SOHO 6 models come with a Mobile User VPN option that enables traveling users to establish data encryption standard (DES) or 3DES encrypted VPN tunnels. The Mobile User VPN option also includes a personal firewall to protect laptops when they are outside the corporate network. The Firebox SOHO 6tc 50-user is designed for larger remote offices with more than 10 users.

Jean Nassar, WatchGuard senior vice president of marketing, said the Firebox SOHO 6 lineup is easy to deploy and provides superior network security for small businesses.

"Our new high performance, plug-and-play Firebox SOHO 6 security appliances are redefining the performance and price equation for the low-end firewall/VPN market," Nassar said. "These SOHO products continue our commitment to the SME and SOHO markets by providing superior security features on a new high performance platform."

The Firebox SOHO 6 products secure networks with advanced dynamic stateful packet filtering, application level gateways, and optional Web content filtering and feature six 10/100 Fast Ethernet interfaces (4 LAN and 2 WAN). Additionally, the SOHO 6 models come with a Mobile User VPN option that enables traveling users to establish DES or 3DES encrypted VPN tunnels. The Mobile User VPN option also includes a personal firewall to protect laptops when they are outside the corporate network.

The SOHO 6 models comply with the industry standard ICSA Labs Firewall certification, enabling integration with existing security solutions. Each Firebox SOHO 6 model includes a 90-day subscription to WatchGuard's LiveSecurity Service and one year of McAfee VirusScan ASaP desktop anti-virus protection.

Pricing and availability
The Firebox SOHO 6 models will be available through WatchGuard resellers in September 2002.

Suggested list price for the Firebox SOHO 6 is $469. The Firebox SOHO 6tc lists for $629 and the SOHO 6tc 50-user version starts at $899.
