Accelerated Internet Browsing for ISPs

Speedwise ISPower promises faster browsing that is transparent to end-users and requires no client-side installations. If bandwidth prices fail to fall, browser acceleration will allow ISPs to make do with what they have.

Speedwise recently launched its Speedwise ISPower, an accelerated Internet browsing solution for ISPs designed to allow end-users to browse the Web at speeds of up to four times faster using a standard browser.

Speedwise claims that the improved Internet service can be rapidly deployed by ISPs to all users or to a selected subscriber base, with no changes to their existing last-mile infrastructure.

Following the installation on a standard server at the ISP site, the company says subscribers are able to connect to the Internet as they normally do, using a standard browser. The requested content is processed and optimized through the Speedwise server before it is passed on to the end-user.

The company says that Speedwise ISPower is affordable, easy to deploy, and grants ISPs total independence from last-mile vendors since it requires no changes to the existing landline infrastructure.

Here are the specifications for an ISPower server for 500 concurrent users:

  • Sun Ultra 10
  • 512MB memory
  • 9GB hard disk
  • Solaris 2.7 operating system
  • 10/100Base-T network port

Using patent-pending pattern analysis algorithms, ISPower is designed to significantly reduce the bit representation of the downloaded objects as they pass through the server. By shrinking the volume of content to a fraction of its original size and creating virtual bandwidth, Speedwise ISPower is supposed to speed the delivery of rich content. Speedwise ISPower is installed as a standard local area network (LAN) server on the ISP's network and is designed to support any HTML-ready device (PCs, laptops, PDAs, pocket PCs).

"With Speedwise ISPower, end-user browsing time is no longer peppered with frustrating delays as subscribers wait for content to appear," said Moshe Sheps, president, Speedwise. "Time spent on the Web becomes a quality experience. ISPs can stand apart from their competitors, offering a scalable Internet acceleration service to their individual subscribers or corporate clients immediately without any infrastructure upgrades."

"With Speedwise ISPower, ISPs can provide their subscriber base with accelerated Web browsing up to four times faster than normal by using a standard browser," added Sheps. "For the ISPs, our software is easily deployed and scalable."
