Filanet Corporation announced its InterJak 200 Internet Service Appliance, an integrated affordable device designed to allow small and remote offices to share Internet access, files and printers, and network services.

In addition to the InterJak 200, Filanet also announced enhanced service options. With these service options, service providers may be able to quickly and easily set up small or remote offices with a managed, integrated LAN and WAN solution using the InterJak platform, and enhance operational efficiency while reducing costs.

The InterJak 200 Internet service appliance uses a Filanet-engineered ASIC and embedded microLinux. According to the company, the InterJak 200 can serve as a fully featured LAN networking device, supporting IP routing, network address and port translation, DHCP client and server capabilities, and file and print sharing.

Using dual USB ports and dual IEEE 1394A (FireWire) ports, the InterJak 200 supports Plug and Play capabilities with printers or hard drives.

The InterJak 200 is designed to support a wide range of WAN options from V.90 and cable modems to ADSL, SDSL, and ISDN. In addition, the InterJak 200 supports dual 10/100 Ethernet ports that can be used for internal Ethernet LAN, optional WAN connectivity and DMZ support. The InterJak 200 is also available in versions that feature integrated WAN connectivity. The ADSL and SDSL versions are available globally, while the ISDN version is mostly deployed in Europe.

"Service providers addressing the networking needs of small and remote offices face the challenge of delivering enhanced services while containing deployment costs," said Avner Ben-Dor, Founder and CEO of Filanet Corporation. "With the InterJak 200 Internet Service Appliance, service providers can now remotely and securely deliver and manage additional services that ensure customer retention and recurring revenue—all without a customer site visit. In addition, small and remote office end users benefit from an affordable, easy-to-use device that is capable of performing the LAN and WAN functions that they require."

"The growth of services like DSL have brought broadband to many smaller businesses that previously could not afford such services," said Pat Hurley, DSL Analyst from TeleChoice. "The next step for service providers and end-users is to begin to utilize the new generation of value-added services facilitated by these broadband links. Solutions like Filanet's InterJak will help small businesses exploit their broadband connections for more than just basic Internet access."
