DSL Prime: DSL Statistics Worldwide, Q2 2006
As BroadbandReports said, "DSL Rules the World."
But in the most advanced nations, fiber is replacing copper.
Q2 International DSL
"DSL
Rules the World" headlined DSLR about the quarterly figures. Point
Topic's Global Broadband Statistics (GBS) Database is a pleasure to work
with, allowing you to look at broadband deployment from dozens of angles.
Here's some data from the second quarter. HH is household penetration,
more useful than simply comparing number of DSL line to population. For

The most dramatic number in the chart is the negative growth in Korea,
which is saturated. Japan is low, as NTT builds millions of lines of fiber.
Canada is disappointing because Bell Canada raised prices.

Using percent of households rather than the more common percent of population
causes North Europe, with small families, to drop in the ratings. The
U.S. continues to lag, with Germany, Spain, and Italy even further behind.
