March 26, 2002 -- BellSouth announced that it would deploy high-speed DSL service to an additional nine communities throughout rural Georgia during the second quarter of 2002. This deployment, coupled with the 14 markets announced for the first quarter, and those made during the last two years, means that almost 90 communities across the state now have access to these services. The effort is a part of an initiative announced by BellSouth and Governor Roy Barnes in May of 2000 to speed development of a broadband infrastructure throughout Georgia.

The communities covered by this deployment include:

Adairsville
Buchanan
Cave Springs
Colquitt
Franklin
Lake Park
Roopville
Sparks
Zebulon

The local deployment is part of the company's rollout plan designed to allow BellSouth to meet its announced goal of 1.1 million total DSL subscribers in its markets by the end of 2002.
